Irene Lyon, 101, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 1996, at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Funeral Mass services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Monsignor Gerald F. Lyon Officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m., at the Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lyon was born June 1,0, 1895, in Clearwater, Neb. She married Fay I. Lyon on Jan. 28, 1924, in Sioux City. He died on July 18, 1981, in Sioux City. She was raised in Battle Creek, Iowa and Norfolk, Neb., she came to Sioux City around 1919. She taught school for three years, then worked as an office secretary for the Automatic Telephone Company of Sioux City.

She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Church Confraternity. She was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America, a member and former president of the Catholic Women's League, and a volunteer at the Bargain Center. She also was a member of the Premier Bridge Club and the Lucky 13 Bridge Club.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth and his wife Marilynn of Sioux City and Monsignor Gerald F. of Le Mars, Iowa; a daughter, Mary Lyon of Ocala, Fla.; a sister Leone Carrabine of Sioux City; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mark and Patrick Lyon, Dick Holtzen, Al Kokenge, Brian Davis, and Dianne Shoultz.

Memorials may be made in her name to Hospice of Siouxland.
