3-Year-Old Boy Is Fatally Burned in Home Tragedy

Russell Hindman Victim –
Father Just Back From Navy

Russell Melvin Hindman, 3-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Hindman, 42164 ½ Van. Buren Street, died in a hospital Wednesday afternoon from third degree burns.

An official report stated that, unknown to members of the family, the boy had gone to an upstairs room in the Hindman home and placed paper on the fire in a stove there. The flames spread to his clothing and before they be extinguished caused burns which a short time later resulted in death.

The boy's father had returned home only Tuesday night after service with the navy.

Russell was born December 16, 1941, at Burlington, la., and came to Sioux City with the family eight months ago.

Survivors besides the parents are two brothers, Marvin, and De Loss, a sister, Alice Marie; the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hindman of Sioux City, and the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hulet, Stronghurst, Illinois.

The body was taken to the W. Harry Christy funeral home, 711 Myrtle Street.
