Arthur G. ‘Art’ Kuester

Sioux City -- Arthur G. “Art” Kuester, 87, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, at a local hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. on Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Arthur “Art,” the son of Martin and Pauline (Klaus) Kuester was born on July 13, 1933, in Ute, Iowa. Art grew up on a farm near Ute until his family moved to Sioux City during his teen years. He attended and graduated East High School. During his junior year of high school Art worked at DeMers Mobile Service, gaining owner- ship in the mid-70s. He would continue working his whole career there until retiring at the age of 65. Over the years, Art attended various courses pertaining to specialized auto mechanics.

On June 10, 1955, Art married Darlene Cakebread in Sioux City. This union was blessed with four children, and the family made their home in Sioux City.

Art truly enjoyed the outdoors including hunting, camping, and yearly fishing trips to Canada and Decorah, Iowa. For many years Art enjoyed bowling and continued up to a couple years ago. He was a very handy man who built the family’s second home on West 30th Street. In later years Art and Darlene enjoyed wintering in Texas. Art was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church.

Art is survived by his four children Loren (LeAnn) Kuester of Sergeant Bluff, Cindy (Richard Brynjulson) of Le Mars, Iowa, Paula (Eldon) Peterson of Sioux City, and Brian (Gail) Kuester of Sioux City; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother Paul (Linda) Kuester of Sergeant Bluff; sister Sandy (Don) Mitchell of Onalaska, Wash.; and sister-in-law Dorothy Kuester of Sioux City.

He was proceeded into death by his parents; wife Darlene on May 31, 2020; and two brothers Raymond Kuester, and Marvin Kuester.
