B. Haddock, Hornick civic leader, dies

HORNICK, Iowa -- J. Bruce Haddock, 73, of rural Hornick died Monday in a hospital in Onawa after long illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the United Methodist Church, in Hornick. The Rev. Gary De Geest, pastor, and the Rev. Dale Church of Sioux City will officiate. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery at Holly Springs. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today in the McCulloch-Wavrin Funeral Home in Moville. The Rev. Travis Cannaday will officiate.

Mr. Haddock was born Sept. 2, 1909, at Hornick and lived most of his life in the Hornick area except for two years in the Rock Branch area. He graduated from Hornick High School and Morningside College in Sioux City.

He married Georgette Prescott Aug. 31, 1934, in Sioux City. He was a retired farmer.

Mr. Haddock was a member of the Hornick United Methodist Church where he served as superintendent of the Sunday school and was a lay leader. He served as Willow Township chairman of the Republican committee, Willow Township clerk for 36 years, Woodbury County cancer chairman, Woodbury County Farm Bureau president, Woodbury County Farm Bureau state representative, Woodbury County 4-H leader, Woodbury County Library Board member, member, and secretary of Holly Springs School Board, served as board member of the Woodbury County Extension Service and FHA and was a member of Attica Masonic Lodge at Sloan. He was a charter member of the Woodbury County Plan and Zoning Commission.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ronald of Omaha and Chief Warrant Officer, Jon of Killeen, Texas; one sister, Ninon Netley of Akron, Iowa, and one brother, Keith of Moville.
