ORVAL Dean FORNEY

Orval D. Forney, 80, Hornick, a retired farmer, died Tuesday morning at a Sioux City hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ in Holly Springs. The Revs. Edrie Regier and Paul Tester will officiate. Burial will be at the Holly Springs Willow Township Cemetery under direction of the Wood Funeral Home of Sloan.

A prayer service will be held at 8 o'clock tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Forney was born March 17, 1891, at Sloan. He married Annabelle Clift Feb. 19, 1914, at Sioux City.

A farmer, he lived in the Holly Springs and Hornick area all of his life with the exception of a period from 1938 to 1947 when he lived at Hartington, Neb. He retired from farming in 1947.

For many years, Mr. Forney had an extensive rose garden and was known in the area as an expert on roses. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Holly Springs.

Survivors include the widow; three daughters, Mrs. Frances Madsen of Santa Rosa, Calif., Mrs. Clarence (Mary Alice) Hanson of Petaluma, Calif., and Mrs. Gordon (Norma Jean) Griggs of Issaquah, Wash.; five sons, Bernard and Don both of Hornick, Roy of Sioux City, Ardell (Buster) of Ashland, Ore.; and David of Denver, Colo.; three sisters, Mrs. Nell Van Cleave of Sloan, Mrs. Grace Washburn of Hornick and Mrs. Ross (Gladys) Heck of Homer; two brothers, Paul E. of Pierre, S.D., and William of Sioux City; 32 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
