HORNICK, Iowa --- Vida Margaret Dowling, 81, of Hornick died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1992, at Casa De Paz Nursing Home in Sioux City.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Evangelical Church at German City, with Pastor Walter Enstrom officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery at Holly Springs under the direction of the Willman Funeral Home of Rodney. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. today at the Wood Funeral Home in Sloan.

Mrs. Dowling was born March 6, 1911, near Ticonic, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (McMannamy) Kendall. She graduated from Hornick High School in 1929. She married Lafayette "Chris"' Dowling Aug. 30, 1929, in Sioux City. He died Dec. 31, 1964, in Onawa. She had been a waitress at Ball's Cafe in Hornick and the Red Rooster in Younkers in Sioux City. She had been a resident of the nursing home the last 2 ½ years.

Mrs. Dowling was a member of St. John's Evangelical Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Bella (Dorothy) Lathrop of Sioux City, Mrs. Eugene (Donna) Hanner of Hornick and Mrs. Jim (Judith) Loewenstein of El Paso, Texas; a brother, Frank of Burbank, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Nina Pickens of Omaha and Mrs. Leona Nickoliasen of Whiting; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers; four sisters; and a grandson.
