Janice Ileen (Coover) Dahl 1933-2014

Our beautiful mother, sister, daughter, and friend, Jan Dahl passed away on April 7th, 2014 surrounded by love. Her long difficult journey with dementia is over and she left this world victorious.
Jan was born March 24, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa to Ralph Freeman and Edna (Larsen) Coover as the youngest of eight children. She grew up in the small town of Holly Springs, IA, and graduated in a class of 6 from Holly Springs High School in 1950. She was involved in everything…. girls’ basketball, cheerleading, plays, and performing in musical programs.
She married Clayton Dahl in Oct. 1950, and had three wonderful children: Doug, Jill, and Scott. (they later divorced). The family packed up and moved to San Diego California in 1957. Jan eventually became a quality control inspector for printed circuit boards. Some of these were for NASA and even went into space. After the kids were grown, she loved to travel and went all over the world; including the Virgin Isles, New England, Sedona, Arizona, and fulfilled a childhood dream of going to Switzerland.
She loved helping people and her favorite and final job before retirement was helping other seniors get placed in part-time jobs. Jan’s loves included: camping, sewing, going to the ocean, singing in the choir, her many friends, long drives to explore new places, butterflies and angels, hanging out with her girlfriends at Sheldons, Padres baseball games, and of course, shopping! She loved ushering at the theaters and volunteering for various historical society organizations. She loved being a “tour guide” for her beloved San Diego!
She was a very spiritual person, and her faith was rooted in the Lord Jesus Christ. We can envision her already singing in a heavenly choir! But above all, Jan loved her family. Her parents, brothers and sisters, beloved nieces and nephews were all cherished by her. He children were her pride and joy and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a very special place in her heart and she loved them all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers True, Orlie, Howard, and her oldest sister June. She is survived by her remaining brother Tom (Dot) Coover of Savannah GA, sister Nina Martinsen of Newcastle, NE, and sister Joyce Swalley of Rapid City, SD. Her three children, Doug Dahl (Pam) of Ithaca, New York, Jill Chestnut (Rick) of Payson, Utah, Scott Dahl (Brooke) of Chula Vista, CA, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
It was her wish to be cremated and laid to rest with her parents at the Willow Township cemetery in Holly Springs, IA.
The family would like to thank her tireless and amazing hospice nurse Anthony, the owners and staff of Seasons of Santaquin, especially the wonderful CNAs who provided her with such caring and loving attention and made the last years of her life special and dignified. Her friends from the Hope Baptist Church of Payson, UT. who welcomed her with open arms and eased her transition to Utah and connected Mom to her special angels and dear friends, Judy and Cecil.
A special memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 12th at 7pm. Hope Baptist Church, 160 S Main St, Payson, UT. 84651
