Donald G. Cassens

ANTHON, Iowa - Donald Gene Cassens, 63, of Anthon died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at his residence of an accidental gunshot wound.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Climbing Hill, Iowa, with the Rev. Glenn Rachuy officiating. Armstrong Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements,

Mr. Cassens was born March 13, 1933, in Tilden Township, Cherokee County, Iowa, the son of Ben and Anna (Kirkholm) Cassens. He attended grade school in Bronson, Iowa and Climbing Hill, graduating from Climbing Hill High School in 1951.

He married Florice on March 30, 1952, in Climbing Hill.

He farmed most of his life, moving to his present farm on Jan. 7, 1959. He also worked road construction at Swift's and at Cold Storage.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Farm Bureau and the Western Iowa Co-op.

He enjoyed camping and hunting.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Steve and Sue of Page, Ariz., and Ben and Pam of Hornick, Iowa; a daughter, Linda Cassens of Basel, Switzerland; four grandchildren, Matthew, Heath and Miranda Cassens and Robin Burke; three great-grandchildren; his mother, Anna (Cassens) Henry of Sioux City; two brothers and their wives, Leonard and Juanita and Ray and Carole all of Anthon; two sisters and their husbands, Margaret and Gene Sokolowski of Sioux City and Gloria and David Hink of Correctionville, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ben; a brother, Roland and his step-father, John Henry.
