Max Bekish

Max Bekish, 76, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1996, at the Matney Morningside Manor following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Orthodox Church, with the Rev. Thomas Begley officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with a Trisagion service at 8 p.m. at the Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home.

Mr. Bekish was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Sioux City, the son of Anton and Mary (Tchaikovsky) Bekish.

He married Marie Warnkvist on July 3, 1947, in Ponca, Neb.

He was employed with Flavorland Packing House for many years and was an official with AFL and CIO unions. He then owned and operated Bub's Collectibles and Used Furniture for 18 years.

Mr. Bekish served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Eagles Club. When he was young, he played pro football and was a Golden Gloves boxer and city champ in Sioux City.
