Lois M. Sloan

Lois M. Sloan, 84, of Sioux City died Thursday,' Dec. 19, 1996, at a Sioux City Hospital, following an extended illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Sitzmann, Chaplain of Marian Health Center, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sloan was born Oct. 17, 1912, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, to George E. and Alice M. (Kelly) Sharp. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School and then in 1936 from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She married Kenny E. Sloan on Oct. 3, 1936, in Des Moines, and they moved to Sioux City. He died Dec. 24, 1966, in Sioux City. The first woman pharmacist in Iowa, she worked at Toller's, was the owner and operator of "The Pharmacy" in the Badgerow Building, and was with Marian Health Center at the time of her retirement in 1986. She was a pharmacist for over 50 years.

She was a candidate for Woman of the Year, with Women Aware in 1986.

Survivors include one daughter, Judy of Sioux City; one sister and her husband, Mildred and Clint Horlacher of Storm Lake, Iowa; three, grandchildren, Ron and Ken Poskevich, and Nicole McMahoh;, two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Flummerfelt and Doris Budine; and two brothers, ' Floyd and Elvin Sharp.

Pallbearers include Kenny and Ronnie Poskevich, Kary McMahon, and John, Michael, and Bradley Van Beest.
