Robert Thomas Wensel, 83, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Oct. 4, 2020, at Westwood Specialty Care in Sioux City, due to complications from the Covid 19 virus.
There will be no service at this time due to the virus.
Robert was born Oct. 23, 1937, in Sioux City, to Lowell and Gladius Wensel. He graduated from Central High School in 1956. Robert was an accomplished draftsman early in life until he joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Jasper during the Bay of Pigs.
After Robert's time in the service, he spent most of his adult life working in the trades as a carpenter and operating engineer in and around Sioux City.
Robert married the love of his life, Andrea Mary Wensel (Chiles) in Sioux City. Robert was the only man Andrea ever loved. They were both avid readers, trivia buffs and lovers of all animals. Robert was a huge fan of the Cubs, Hawkeyes and anyone playing Nebraska.
He is survived by his four children, Dr. J.P. Wensel and his wife, Amy of Eugene, Ore., Ransom P. Wensel of Virginia Beach, Va., Trenton K. Wensel and his wife, Tammera of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Cassandra D. Wensel-Kanne and her husband, Michael Kanne of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Ariana Wensel, Angus Wensel, Sydney Wensel, Jocelyn Wensel, Bannock Wensel, Brock Wensel, Thackery Kanne and Gemelia Wensel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Gladys Wensel; brother, Warren (Mike) Wensel; and wife, Andrea M. Wensel (Chiles).
The family would like to send a very special thank you to Beano, Paul and Mary, Talon, and Mark and Michelle for helping Robert extending his life. We are thankful for your time and caring.
In lieu of cards, donations can be made to the Siouxland Humane Society in Robert and Andrea Wensel's name, or even better, adopt an animal who needs a loving home.
