James 'Jim' Alan Munson Sr.

Sioux City

James "Jim" Alan Munson Sr., 90, of Sioux City passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020.

Abiding by his wishes, cremation will take place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be made to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Jim was born on Oct. 22, 1930, to Harold and Esther (Anderson) Munson in Sioux City, Iowa. He was raised in Maskell, Neb., and at 16, he graduated from high school at the top of his class. At the age of 17, Jim joined the Air Force and he proudly served his country in the Korean War.

In February 1959, Jim married Irene Carr, and they were blessed with two children, Myla and James Jr. She preceded him in death in 1976. Jim was united in marriage to his second wife, Rosemarie "Rose" Stark in 1977. Rose also had two children from a previous marriage, Kathy and Roger.

Jim worked at Swift, Needham, and at IBP, where he would later retire after many years working in sales. Jim enjoyed the simple things in life: a good cup of coffee, a challenging crossword puzzle, or a long walk around the neighborhood. Jim will be remembered for his wisdom and selflessness.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Rosemarie Munson; daughter, Myla (Tim) Jones of Blair, Neb.; son, James (Barb) Munson Jr. of Louisville, Ky.; stepdaughter, Kathy Camerer of Sioux City; stepson, Roger (Roxane) Nelson of Battle Creek, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Esther Munson; first wife, Irene Carr; sisters, Marylin Nelsen and Sharon Johnson; and brother in law, Donald Nelsen.
