Cyrenus Henry Packard, 74, a retired railroad engineer, died Thursday afternoon in his home at 814 18th street. He had been ill several weeks.

Mr. Packard had been a resident of Sioux City for the last 20 years He was born December 27, 1862 in Luni, Ia. He entered the employ of the Chicago and Northwestern railroad in 1877 at Eagle Grove, Ia., as a roundhouse worker and later became a fireman and then an engineer. Before retiring six years ago, his last run was between Omaha and Huron.

Married at Lake City. Ia., May 18, 1898. Mr. and Mrs. Packard resided there, at Carroll, Hawarden and Missouri Valley before coming to Sioux City.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Margaret O. Packard of Sioux City; a son, Bruce G. Packard of Huron; two daughters, Mrs. Essie Butzier of Fort Dodge and Miss Ruth L. Packard of Evanston, Ill., and a sister Mrs. Daisy Pierce of Waterloo.

Mr. Packard was a member of the First Methodist church and of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.

The body is at Westcott-Doughty-Chandler funeral home pending completion of funeral arrangements.

Cyrenus H. Packard died last Thursday, May 6, at his home in Sioux City. He was 74 years old and had been in poor health the past year.

He is survived by his wife and two children, Bruce of Huron, S. D., who is employed by the North Western Railroad company, and Ruth who is teaching in Chicago. There are also a half-sister and several grandchildren and many other relatives. Burial was made at Sioux City last Saturday afternoon.

C. H. Packard was born December 27, 1862, at Luni and resided in this community for many years. He was married to Margaret McQueen on May 18, 1901[1898]. He was employed on the North Western railroad and was an engineer at the time of his retirement on a pension a number of years ago.
