Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be offered at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Armeline was born on Dec. 28, 1926, to Dr. Paul and Ellen (Ryan) Becker, of Osmond, Neb. She graduated from Osmond High School in 1944. She attended Wayne State College earning a teaching certificate. She taught school in Kingsley.

She met her husband, Marcedes Max Spain, in Kingsley and they were united in marriage on Nov. 25, 1948, in Osmond. Max passed away on March 25, 2005.

Max’s job took them to Holstein, Iowa, Eagle Grove, Iowa, and then to Sioux City in 1962, where they raised their six children. After the youngest went to school, Armeline entered the work force. She was employed two years for Dr. Cecil Bliss, DDS, and then was employed for 29 years at Drs. Roberts, Kissel and Mitchell, retiring in 1992. She was on several boards with the Boys and Girls Home. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband visiting their children and grandchildren and attending Max’s Navy reunions.

Even after Alzheimer’s robbed her of so many things, her love of playing the piano never left her. Armeline was an amazing cook and she will be remembered for her fabulous cinnamon rolls as well as for her beautiful knitted afghans.

Those left to cherish her memory are her five daughters, Michelle Spain of Gunnison, Colo., Roxanne and Steve Mitchell of Parker, Colo., Paula Spain of Aurora, Colo., Patrice and Don Carlson of Denver, Colo., and Maureen and Jim Waite of Sergeant Bluff; her five grandchildren, Erin and Ryan Ruiz of Colorado City, Colo., Amanda Mitchell of Parker, Christopher Mitchell of Amsterdam, Katie Waite of Fort Collins, Colo., and Angie and Peter Apple of Ankeny, Iowa; her three great-grandchildren, Zachery, Desiree and Gloriana Ruiz; one brother, Cletus Becker of Norfolk, Neb.; brother-in-law, Patrick and Gail Spain of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max; her infant daughter, Mary Ellen; her son, Mark; her parents, Dr. Paul and Ellen Becker; her sister, Colleen Wagner; her brother, Dr. Clement Becker; and her infant grandson, Adam Moser Mitchell.

Pallbearers will be Pat Becker, Tim Becker, Dr. Phil Becker, Roger Wagner, Ryan Ruiz and Zachery Ruiz.

The family would like to thank our mother’s caregivers, especially Lynn, Lisa and Andrea from Synergy Home Care, the staff at Sunrise Retirement Center, especially the caregivers in the Bayberry, Bernstein and Evergreen Units, and Hospice of Siouxland.
