Merle Woolworth, 84, of Holstein, formerly Sioux City, passed away from natural causes on March 20, 2020, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Memorial Mass will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Holy Cross-Immaculate Conception Church. The family is asking that masks be worn for the Mass. A celebration of life luncheon will immediately follow at the Hampton Inn, 5555 Sergeant Rd., Sioux City, IA 51106. Online condolence may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Merle was born Oct. 24, 1935, to Sylvester (Vet) and Mildred Woolworth. Merle grew up in the Leeds area of Sioux City. He married Jeannette Jordan on June 1, 1957, in El Cerrito, Calif. They returned to Sioux City in 1958. Merle was employed by Concrete Pipe Machinery Co. He traveled all over the world as an Installation Specialist, retiring in 2000.
Merle is survived by his wife, Jeannette; two sons, Bryan (Melinda) of Raytown, Mo., and David (Twila) of Washta, Iowa; five grandsons, Ryan Matzelle, Kyle Woolworth, Dustin (Deanna) Woolworth, Calvin Langschwager and Dakota Woolworth; one granddaughter, Erin Woolworth (fiancée Don Howard); four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Donna (Al) Baustian of Sioux City, and Janice (Dick) Gatz of Garrison, Minn.; several nieces and nephews; and Merle’s beloved cat, Scharona.
Merle was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, Kenneth and Melvin; and two sisters, Geraldine Eik and Doreen Bailey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Merle’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren
