HOMER, Neb. -( Buried Sioux City) Milford Rewinkel, 94, of Homer passed away Monday, May 25, 2009, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Homer, with the Rev. Randy Rasmussen officiating, following a military flag presentation. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.

Milford was born Jan. 2, 1915, in Columbus, Mont., the son of Henry and Ida (Lessman) Rewinkel. His family moved to the Wakefield, Neb. area in 1917, where he grew up and attended school. He went to work on his uncle's farm in South Dakota for a year, then spent two years on a farm in Illinois.

He then moved to California and was employed at the Studebaker Automobile plant in Los Angeles, until he was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1941. He was based in Florida and received his training at the college in Athens, Ga. He became a radio technician and served in Iceland and the Philippines. When World War II ended, he was honorably discharged and returned home and spent a year in South Dakota before moving to Iowa.

On March 7, 1947, he married Margaret C. Nelsen in Sioux City. They lived in South Sioux City until 1953, when they moved to Homer. He was employed at Chesterman Company for 26 years, retiring in 1977.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; four sons and their wives, Darrell and Sally of Phoenix, Ariz., Wayne and Trish of Fort Collins, Colo., Randy and LeAnn of Omaha and Kim and Diane of Homer; a daughter and her husband, Cindy and Fred Strasser of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother, Walter of Orangevale, Calif.; a sister, Roberta Nebergall of Medford, Ore.; 11 grandchildren, Stephanie, Blair, Tim, David, Jason, Matt, Pat, Aaron and Alisha Rewinkel, Ray Orist and Kristin Strasser; and five great-grandchildren, Katie, Brighton, Finn, Ella and Briley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lester; and two sisters, Ethel and lone.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
