Kermit W.Ritchison

SIOUX CITY - Kermit W. Ritchison, 73, of Sioux City died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Graceland Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Kermit was born July 11, 1935. in Sioux City, to Paul and Edna (Leach) Ritchison. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after school.

He married Kay Heller in 1955, while stationed in Mississippi. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 3, 1967. While in the U.S. Navy, he was a cook and later worked in the commissary at Port Hueneme in Oxnard, Calif. The couple retired to Sioux City 16 years ago to be closer to family.

He enjoyed collecting sports cards and watching baseball. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Kay of Sioux City; a son, Brad Ritchison of Seattle, Wash.; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Kenneth Anderson of Sioux City; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenny Ritchison, Jerry Ritchison and his wife, Judy and Doyle Ritchison, all of Sioux City and a sister and her husband, Ionia and Ronald Rasmussen of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; a sister, Iris Ritchison; and a sister-in-law, Janice Ritchison.
