Eleanore 'Red' Bertrand

SIOUX CITY - Eleanore Mae "Red" (Thompson) Bertrand, 82, of Sioux City passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at a local nursing home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with Ronnie Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Closed casket visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Eleanore was born on June 22, 1927, in Sioux City. She was married to Francis Bertrand in February of 1945, in Union County, S.D. Eleanore worked for the Sioux City Community Schools at Grant School for 27 years, retiring in 1997.

Survivors include three sons, Robert (Luann), David (Kathy) and Michael (fiancee Vicki Norton), all of Sioux City; foster daughter, Staff Sgt. Ida Gastro, U.S. Army; a sister, Charlotte Trout of Elkhardt, Ind.; sisters-in-law, Margaret Thompson of Jefferson, S.D., Lucille Curio of North Sioux City, Bonnie "Bunny" Schmitz of Elk Point, S.D., Amelia Bertrand of Jefferson, Lorraine Bertrand of Sioux City, and Ellie Bertrand of Elk Point; ll grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis in 1979; two sons, Terry and Timmy Joe; parents, Robert and Edna Thompson; two brothers, Roland and Walter Thompson; and two sisters, Eileen (George) Golden and Lenore (Donald) Limoges.

Spiritual bouquets by her granddaughters, Pam Bertrand, Jennifer (Chad) Harsma and Amy (Damon) Peirce.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Dan, Tom, Rick, Russ, Brian, Joel, Scott Bertrand and Chris Schafer.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kim Downs, Judy Thompson, Patty Carrell, Diane Springfield, Carol Brown, Charlotte Vander Schaeff, Colleen Allen, Dennis and Donna Golden, Gary and Judy Golden and Rhonda Eberhardt, to whom Eleanor is forever grateful for all their loving care.
