SIOUX CITY - Joyce Elaine Prescott, 76, of Sioux City died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with Pastor John Pehrson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Joyce was born on Dec. 24, 1932, in South Sioux City, the daughter of Charles and Henrietta (Young) Sweisberger. She attended East High School, graduating in 1950.

She married John Prescott on Sept. 8, 1951, in Sioux City, and had four children. She worked outside the home for about the first four years of her 57-year marriage to John.

Joyce was an avid bowler and golfer. She participated in many state golf tournaments, where she finished as runner-up several times. She was on the state of Iowa Women's Golf Association. Joyce and her husband played in many couple tournaments. She was a member of a team that rated several golf courses throughout the state of Iowa to establish the slope rating for women golfers.

Joyce also bowled in 25 national bowling tournaments all over the U.S. She was the city bowling secretary for the Sioux City Women's Bowling Association for over 25 years. Her high bowling series was 699.

Survivors include her husband, John; a daughter, Charleah and husband Ray Telford of Des Moines, Iowa; two sons, Jeff and wife Ellen (Warren) Prescott of South Sioux City, and Gary and wife Vickie (Nagel) Prescott of Sioux City; a sister, Charlotte Powell; grandchildren, Jacob Frahm, Ashley, Amanda, Katie and Joe Prescott; a great-granddaughter, Amiya Frahm; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John; brothers, Charles, George and Bill Sweisberger; sisters, Henrietta Gill, Dorothy (Boyle) Deroin, Margaret Boyle and Helen Boyle.

Pallbearers will be Billy Sweisberger, Ken Sweisberger, Stan Sweisberger, Brent Culver, Todd Culver and John Culver.

Memorials may be directed to Westminister Presbyterian Church or the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
