The Rev. Bill Anderson

SOUTH SIOUX CITY( Died Sioux City) -The Rev. Bill Anderson, 8o, of South Sioux City died April 26, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

A celebration of his life will be l p.m. Friday, July 17, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in South Sioux City, with a time of remembering and rejoicing. Private graveside services will be in Oakland Cemetery, Oakland, Neb.

Bill was born to Anna V. and Henning S. Anderson on March 20, 1929, at Oakland Community Hospital in Oakland. He served on active duty with the U.S. Army from March 1951 to December 1952. He then served with the U.S. Army Reserves until March 1957.

After farming for 23 years, he received his general education diploma and began continuing his education. He served Logan Center, Dixon and Allen, Neb., United Methodist Churches while attending Morningside College and Wayne State College, where he graduated in December 1979. He then moved to Freeport, Ill., and served Florence Station United Marine Corps. At this time, he attended Garrett Theological Seminary and Dubuque Theological Seminary, graduating in 1982, with his Deacon Orders.

In 1984, he became an elder in the Nebraska Conference United Methodist Church. He served churches in Belvidere, Hebron, Pender United Methodist Church and Pender Presbyterian Church, later the United Church of Pender. After retirement, he served as visitation pastor of the River Valley charge consisting of Allen, Dixon, Dakota City, Homer, Ponca Presbyterian and United Methodist Church and South Sioux City United Methodist Churches.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10753 and American Legion Post 307. He accepted everyone for who they were and his love of life was evident through his ability to make people laugh. His sense of humor will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Opal M. Anderson; two sons, Harold (Alison) Anderson and Eric (Keryn) Anderson; three daughters, Irma (Don) Pearson, Arlene Anderson and Lula Koester; four grandchildren, Jessica (Dan) Barr, Brent Pearson, Gretchen Koester and Natasha Anderson; and two great-grandchildren, Molly and Lily Barr.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to South Sioux City Fire and Rescue, St. Paul United Methodist Church or the Mutual Aid Society of the United Methodist Church Nebraska Conference.
