James R. 'Jim' Vock

SERGEANT BLUFF -James R. "Jim" Vock, 64, of Sergeant Bluff, passed away on Wednesday, July l, 2009, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church in Sergeant Bluff, with the Rev. Tim Schiller officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Ridge Cemetery at Coleridge, Neb., with military rites conducted by the American Legion, Carl Korff Post 144 of Coleridge. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Jim was born on Aug. 5, 1944, in Sioux City, the son of Clarence and Helen Puntney Vock. He graduated in 1963 from Coleridge High School and then joined the 185th Iowa Air National Guard.

On Jan. 23, 1966, he was united in marriage to Karen Treiber in Hawarden. Jim worked for 17 years at Chesterman's in Sioux City as a route driver and later, worked in the maintenance department for MCI. He retired in the late 1990's due to poor health.

Jim enjoyed the outdoors, caring for his horses and keeping up his John Deere tractors. He was a member of the Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; a son, Jeff Vock of Sioux City; a daughter, Jodi Vock and John Kohn of Cherokee, Iowa; a sister, Joan and her husband, Jim Cautrell of Magnet, Neb., a brother-in-law, Milt Peterson of Omaha; sisters, Jacie and her husband, Terry Burbach of Coleridge, Neb., Julie and her husband, Shane Murphy of Grand Island, Neb., and Jean and her husband, Jim Salisbury of Auburn, Neb.; brothers-in-law, Brian Swift of Hawarden, Iowa, and Ron Treiber and his wife, Becky of Alcester, S.D.; and a sister-in- law, Cindy and her husband, Jim Lynott of Hawarden; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joyce Peterson; a sister-in-law, LeAnn Swift, his parents-in-law, Walter and Evelyn Treiber; and a good friend, Lila Ruring
