SIOUX CITY - A.J. Rippatoe, 70, of Waterloo, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, June 26, 2009, at Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center in Waterloo.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Logan Park Cemetery. A reception will follow the service Thursday at Greater New Birth Church, 805 10th St., Sioux City. The body was cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home in Waterloo.
A.J. was born March 5, 1939, in Sioux City, the son of Ira Rippatoe and Ollie Young. He married Pauline Nelson in 1958, in Sioux City. The couple later divorced. He later married Joanie Stevens. She preceded him in death.
He is survived by a daughter, Elva Jean Rippatoe of Sioux City; two sons, Howard Nelson and Ira Rippatoe and his wife, Kim, all of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Rachel Nelson, A.J. "Mungo" Rippatoe, Zach Rippatoe, Vanessa Nelson and Teena Nelson; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
