Charles R. Crawford

SIOUX CITY- Charles R. Crawford, 82, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Sioux City, died Sunday, March 22, 2009, at Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Davenport.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City.

He was born Dec. 10, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of Harry and Myrtle (Downer) Crawford. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1954.

On July 27, 1944, he was united in marriage to Ruth Karen Hanson in Sioux City. She preceded him in death on Aug. 28, 2007.

Charles managed the former Dividend Gas Station at River Drive and Pershing in Davenport for many years. He took a great interest in antique cars, antique radios and antique phonographs.

His memberships included Asbury United Methodist Church of Bettendorf and the Horseless Carriage Club.

Those left to honor his memory include his son, Gregory Crawford of Davenport; his sister, Bonnie (Dick) Jonas of Sioux City, and his brother, Gene (Inis) Crawford of Sioux City.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sons, Terry Crawford and Roger Crawford; and his parents.
