Richard Houfek YANKTON, S.D.(Buried Sioux City)

Richard "Dick" "Snuffy" Houfek, 72, of Yankton passed away Sunday, Jan. 25. 2004, at his residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Kostel Funeral Chapel in Yankton, with the Rev. James Pearson officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Logan Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Richard was born March 15, 1931, at home in Stanton, Neb., to Gerald and Minnie (Mussack) Houfek. He attended District 5 school in Pilger, Neb., through the eighth grade. He then attended a welding trade school in Milford, Neb. He was a welder in Columbus, Neb., then worked as a farm hand in the Wisner and Beemer, Neb., area. He then began his truck driving career, working for several trucking companies before starting H & I Grain.

He married Shirley Kashas in 1971, in Elk Point, S.D. They lived in North Sioux City until her death in 1995. He then moved to Yankton. In 1999 he retired from H & I Grain with more than 50 years of trucking in his career.

His joy was spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, hunting and having coffee with his friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
