SIOUX CITY -- Sharon Mae Smith, 65, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Monday, April 13, 2009, at her residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Sharon was born Feb. 29, 1944, in Sioux City, to Benjamin and Luella (Waugh) Dicus. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1962.

She married Willard E. Smith Jr. on June 26, 1962, in Yankton, S.D.

She enjoyed writing poetry and all her poems are available online at poetry.com under Sharon Mae Smith.

She is survived by her four children, Shaun M. Smith and his wife, Kari of Sioux City, Stephen S. Smith of Spirit Lake, Shay E. Smith of Sioux City and Sonya Jo Simpson of Rock Valley, Iowa; her father, Benjamin Dicus; seven brothers and sisters, Diane Spaulding, Gary Dicus and his wife, Marie, Rick Dicus and his wife, Shirley, Luanne Tieck and her companion, Jim Hock, Roxanne and her husband, Denny Sorensen, Connie and her husband, Jeff Larsen and Mike Dicus and his wife, Tracy.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Luella Dicus; her husband, Willard on Nov. 14, 2008; and two sons, Scot and Sean.

Pallbearers will be Kolton Dicus, Kolby Dicus, Kyle Dicus, Donavan Thompson, Chad Sorensen and Michael Larsen. Honorary pallbearers will be Corey Spaulding, Nicolas Dicus, Damian Dicus and Corey McFarland.
