SIOUX CITY -- Leota E. Huisman, 90, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at her residence.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Waterbury Funeral Service. The family will hold private services at a later date.

Leota was born on June 16, 1918, in Winnebago, Neb., the daughter of John and Hannah Gregg. Leota was united in marriage to Dewey Huisman. He died in 1996.

She lived in the Greenville area for most of her life, and was considered a "grandma" to those in the neighborhood. She also baby-sat for the bowling league at Park Bowl in Greenville for many years. She enjoyed cooking and always had food on the table.

Leota is survived by her four sons, Tom Huisman of Sioux City, Richard Stott and his wife, Marge of Bell Flower, Calif., Fred Stott and his wife, Patty of Bay City, Wash., and Dewey Huisman and his wife, Alpha of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Sharon Smith and Donna Richter, both of Sioux City; 33 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Ruth Simpkins of Banning, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Phyllis; and her son, Barry.
