10 April 2009SIOUX CITY -- David J. Morgan, 83, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.
A celebration of life service will be 7 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. David Zierbel officiating. Visitation with the family will begin at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Abiding by family wishes, cremation has taken place. Burial will be at a later date.
David was born Aug. 13, 1925, in Marshall, Minn., the son of John and Vida (Pike) Morgan. He graduated from Milroy (Minn.) High School and graduated from telegraphy school in Minneapolis. He worked for Great Northern Railroad/Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad for 43 years as a telegrapher/chief clerk. He retired in 1990.
He served in the U.S. Navy, then married Shirley Howen of Marshall, Minn., in 1951. They were married for 58 years.
He was involved in various softball leagues as a pitcher. He was an avid horseshoe player and was involved in numerous bowling leagues. He loved country music and enjoyed the couple's many trips to Branson, Mo., to see the shows. The most precious thing in life to him was his family.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Shirley; children, M. Jo Morgan-Adams and her husband, Chase of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Rebecca Morgan De Pauw and her partner, Alan Brown of Canyon City, Colo.; a granddaughter, Leslie De Pauw and her partner, Brandon Gray of Sioux City; a great-granddaughter, Brooklynn De Pauw of Sioux City; and three sisters, Adelle Stoffel of Minnesota, Florence Hults of Arizona, and Gertrude Phillips of Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rodney; and an infant grandson, Ryan De Pauw.
