HORNICK, Iowa -- Josephine "Jo" Carr, 81, of Whiting, Iowa, formerly of Hornick, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Jim Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Catie Newman officiating, at the funeral home.

Josephine Irene "Jo" was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Inman, Neb., the daughter of Emory Lee and Sadie (Robinson) Conger. She was raised in the Inman area and graduated fro Inman High School. After graduation, she lived and worked in California and later moved to Omaha. She worked at the Campbell's Soup Company and a local bank.

She and Merle E. Carr were united in marriage on April 15, 1950, in Sioux City. They lived and farmed in the Hornick area, where they raised their two sons and a daughter. Merle passed away Sept. 22, 1997.

She was a member of the RLDS Church.

Survivors to cherish her memory are her sons, Darrell "Ed" and his wife, Carolyn and John and his fiancee, Cindy, all of Hornick; a daughter, Lori (Carr) Hubert of Hornick; five grandchildren, Michelle (Dave) Herbst of Johnston, Iowa, Emily (John) Clifton of Cambridge, Minn., Holly Carr of St. Louis Park, Minn., Devin Carr (special friend, Kelli) of Hornick and Dane Carr of Hornick; three great-grandchildren, Ben and Alex Herbst and John Robert Clifton; a brother and his wife, Lee and Verva Conger of Independence, Mo.; three sisters-in-law, Marian Romine, Mary Faucet and Millie Carr; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister; and a great-grandson.
