SIOUX CITY -- Bennett "Ben" Aust, 86, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Morningside Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Bennett Clinton Aust was born Sept. 1, 1922, to Benjamin Chester and Clara (Egeberg) Aust, in Colton, S.D. He moved to Sioux City at a young age, residing here most of his life. He graduated from Central High School with the class of 1942. During high school, he worked at Curtis Sash and Door Company.

He and Clarice Larson were married on Oct. 20, 1945, in Highland Park, Ill. They settled in Sioux City, where they raised three sons and a daughter. After retiring to Sioux City, he began his career with Sioux Tools (Albertson's) and attended night school studying mechanical drawing. He became a junior engineer in charge of Canadian and UL inspection standards. After 43 years of employment with Sioux Tools, he retired in 1985. In addition to working at Sioux Tools, he also did patent drawing.

He was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway and the Scandinavian Society. He had a special love for cars (his father was a mechanic by trade) and he loved to build things and travel. He loved his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Clarice of Sioux City; sons, David Bennett and his wife, Cathy of Bloomington, Minn., and Richard Louis and his wife, Shelley of Fort Collins, Colo.; a daughter, Carolyn Louise and her husband, James Bolden of Denver, Colo.; a son, Robert Charles and his wife, Dianne of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Patt Anderson of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Roberta Aust of Iowa Falls, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Perry; a sister, Clarice Whitney; and a brother-in-law, Burton Anderson.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland and/or Morningside Lutheran Church.
