SERGEANT BLUFF -- Michael L. Knapp, 46, of Sergeant Bluff passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Home in Sergeant Bluff.

Michael Lee Knapp was born Dec. 9, 1962, the son of Thomas and Clare (Gardner) Knapp. He graduated in 1981 from Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School. He then began working at Brandt Masonry. In August 1982, he was employed with CW Suter. He worked most all aspects starting as a plumber and during the last decade, had been the operations manager for the commercial installers at CW Suter.

On June 20, 1987, he was united in marriage to Tracy Shultz at Riverside United Methodist Church. During January 2008, he was diagnosed with cancer.

He and his family enjoyed the outdoors whether biking, boating or snowmobiling, depending on the season. In 2005, he took his boys snowmobiling in Wyoming. In 2007, he took Tracy south on a cruise in the Caribbean. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and HOG.

He is survived by his wife, Tracy; two sons, Jason and Jesse of Sergeant Bluff; his brother, Dave and his wife, Carrie of Sergeant Bluff; his sisters, Pam and her husband, Bryan Watkins of Blair, Neb., and Kim Smith of Omaha; his mother, Clare Smith of Sergeant Bluff; his father, Thomas and his wife, Darlene of Merrill, Iowa; his father-in-law, Bill Shultz; stepfather-in-law, Darrell Andersen; brother-in-law, Rob Shultz and his wife, Deb; his stepbrothers and stepsisters; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs, Rusty and Bouncer.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; stepfather, Harlan Smith; and mother-in-law, Donna Andersen.
