SIOUX CITY -- James D. "Jim" Clifford, 67, of Mina, S.D., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas.

Services were held Jan. 26 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen, S.D., where the Rev. Edward Pierce officiated. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory in Aberdeen. Condolences may be sent online to www.schriversmemorial.com.

James David was born Jan. 13, 1942, to Howard and Elaine (Chaussee) Clifford in Vermillion, S.D. They moved to Sioux City, where he grew up and graduated from Heelan High School. He started working for the Milwaukee Railroad after high school.

He and LaVonne Loebsack were united in marriage on Aug. 14, 1961, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City. They moved to Aberdeen, S.D., in 1966, when he was transferred by the railroad and to Mina Lake, S.D., in the early 1980s.

He enjoyed fishing and had a saltwater fishing license. He also enjoyed having a tottie.

Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, LaVonne of Mina, S.D.; his children, Marie (Lyle Jr.) Chapin of Luverne, Minn., Bradley (Misty) Clifford of Sioux City, Mark (Dana) Clifford of Brownsville, Texas, and Carlotta Quenzer and special friend, Craig Stein of Aberdeen, S.D.; his grandchildren, Michael, Lyle James, William, Amber, Nicole (Les) Banley, Alek, Alyssa, Ashley, Mark Jr., Derek Courtney, Kayla, Kassie, Carly and Cameron James; two sisters, Florence "Mitzi" (Hoy) Kelly of Bellevue, Neb., and Janet (Larry) Johnson of Sioux City; a brother, Jerry (Linda) Clifford of Reno, Nev.; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; his dog, Precious Malcomb; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his mother and father-in-law.
