SIOUX CITY -- Courtney W. Noreen, 77, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at Tompkins Health Center in Fort Dodge.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Celebration Center, Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Wall Lake Cemetery, Wall Lake, Iowa, with military rites. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the Celebration Center. Arrangements are under the direction of Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.

Courtney W. Noreen was born April 14, 1931, in Sioux City. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City and received his bachelor of arts degree from Morningside College. He was the first in his family to receive a college degree.

In 1951, he was united in marriage to Betty Joan Druivenga. He was retired from the 185th Iowa Air National Guard as a Lt. Col. The couple lived in Sioux City until moving to Fort Dodge in 1991. While in Fort Dodge, he managed the Wahkonsa Village Apartments until his retirement in 2003.

He was a member of the Retired Officers Group and was proud of his military service. He was proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved to tease and took pride in his cars and taking care of them. He had fun hosting family gatherings around a well planned meal. He will be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children and their spouses, Gloria and Ken Gibb of Lincoln, Neb., and their children, Kirk (Christine) and Johnathon, Mary and Ron Kitterman of Fort Dodge and their children, Mandy (Mike) McKnight and Alex; a great-grandchild, Mason; and three stepgranddaughters, Cindy, Libby, Sarah and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Gracie Towns, Raymond Noreen, twin sisters, Delores Hodgins and Helen Steen and infant twin brothers, Douglas and Lawrence.

Memorials made will be left to the discretion of the family.
