SIOUX CITY -- A light has gone out in our lives. Olivia May Bolton, 108, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at her residence surrounded by her granddaughter and great-granddaughter.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Floyd E. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Olivia May Bolton was born Nov. 3, 1900, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Susan and Laney Scruggs. She grew up in Jefferson City and attended school there. She later attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City. She moved with her family to Sioux City on April 30, 1922.

She was married and to that union six children were born. She had been widowed for many years.

She was employed with the Warrior Hotel, Younker Martins and Younker Davidsons Department Stores. At Younker's, she worked in the alterations department and retired in 1978 after 23 years of service. There she became a member of the 20-year club.

She had been a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church since 1928 and currently was the oldest member of the church. She served on the Mother's Board, was active in Sunday School and sang in the senior choir. She also served on various committees within the church. Her life had been sustained through her faith in God. Her favorite quote was "If it's the Lord's will." She always contended that if you put your faith and trust in God, your life would be complete. She loved her family and friends and was grateful for all of the many blessings that were bestowed on her.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph (Julia) Davis of Harbor City, Calif., and Russell Davis of Las Vegas, Nev.; 16 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Russell and Eugene Street; a sister, Mary Leonard; three sons, Harry Smith, Preston Davis and Arnold Davis Jr.; a daughter, Leona Olivia Fields; and a grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Randy Garr, Todd Garr, Deacon Andrew Pearson, Deacon James Fenceroy, Deacon Rogers Pitts and the Rev. Steven Schmitt.
