SIOUX CITY -- Joni B. Kuhl, 54, of Sioux City died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Zirpel of Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation with the family will be 4 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.christysmith.com.

Joni was born March 5, 1954, in Sioux City, the daughter of Homer and Marquerite (Weber) Kuhl. She was a life long Sioux City resident. She attended Sioux City schools, graduating from East High School in 1972. She then attended Morningside College, graduating in 1978.

She worked at an area nursing home for a few years, then helped in the family store, Kuhl's Fashions, for many years. She was currently working for Readers Digest, selling books to area day cares in their Books Are Fun program.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She enjoyed all arts and crafts, reading, watching college football on television, spending time with her family and her two dogs, Kiki and Kodi.

She is survived by her mother, Marquerite Kuhl of Sioux City; a sister, Julie and Rick Ferris of Sioux City; a niece, Aryan Ferris; a nephew, Adam Ferris; a grandnephew, Richard Ferris; and special friend, Jack Miller.

She was preceded in death by her father, Homer; and her grandparents, Clarence and Marion Weber.

A memorial has been established in her name in care of the family.
