Robert J. McLaughlin Sr., 73, of Sioux City died Sunday, December 26, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8:30 p.m. today at Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel, with the parish vigil service at 7 p.m. and the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Mr. McLaughlin was born May 5 1926, in Sioux City, the son of Everett and Ella (Jolin) McLaughlin. He graduated from Trinity High School and attended Morningside College.

He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II with active duty aboard the U S S Enterprise. He received 11 Bronze Stars.

He married Shirley Nitzschke on August 20, 1951. They made their home in Sioux City. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service until retiring in 1974. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include his former wife of Sioux City; two daughters, Jean Kierscht of Sarasota, Florida and Robin and her husband, Pat Johnson of Sioux City, four sons, Daniel and his wife, Mary of Kansas City, Missouri, Ronald of Fort Worth, Texas, Richard and his wife, Mary Jo of Sioux City and Robert James Jr., and his wife, Tracy of Sioux City; one sister, Bernice Morris of Sioux City, 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Michael, Malia, Sarah, Jeremy and Brittney McLaughlin and Pat Johnson.
