James R. Meyer, 83, of Sioux City died Saturday, March 15, 2003 at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Bernie Colorado of St. James United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Meyer was born in Clinton, Iowa on December 25, 1919, the son of Fred C. and Bessie J. (Nowlen) Meyer. He moved to the Hinton, Iowa area as a small child. He grew up and lived there until about 1945, when he moved to Sioux City, where he had resided since.

He married Eva M. Gagnon on May 25, 1941 in Houston, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945, when he was taken as a prisoner of war in Germany. He worked for more than 30 years as a service mechanic for Kidder-Knoepfler Chevrolet, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, American Legion Monahan Post 64 and VFW Post 1973.

Survivors include his wife, Eva of Sioux City and a sister, Sarah Downing of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
