James L. McFadden, 79, of Des Moines, formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at CLC University in Des Moines.

Services will be 9 a.m. Friday at St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church in Des Moines. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation with the family present will be 4 to 7 p.m. today with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines.

Mr. McFadden was born in Sioux City, where he lived until 1954, when he moved to Des Moines. He was employed as a funeral director with Iles Funeral Home in Des Moines, until his retirement in 1989. The Iles Funeral Homes Boltinghouse-McFadden MTE Award was created and named in his honor.

He was a member of St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the Serra Club, the Optimists Club and the Iowa Funeral Directors Association for more than 50 years.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine; a son, James K.; two grandchildren, Chelsia McFadden and Connor Ruth and a brother and two sisters.
