Abraham J. Trucks -- Civil War

Abraham J. Trucks was born in Plymouth County, Ohio in February 1831 and died in Correctionville September 23, 1904 at the age of 73, after an illness of one week. At the age of 7 he moved with his family to Davenport, Scott County, Iowa where he received an academic education which well-fitted him for business life.

In 1862 he enlisted in the 1st Dakota Territory Cavalry, serving 3 years under General Sully on the frontier, and was for a time a competent clerk in one of the military departments under command of that General. At the close of the war he went to Montana and engaged in mining until 1873 when he returned to Scott County.

He came to Correctionville about 15 years ago. His occupations through life have been varied.

He was never married and knew not the full enjoyment of domestic life. Somewhat eccentric perhaps, but always doing something, and who shall say, but that he did the best he could.

A sister and other relatives mourn his demise.
