David Harold Nelson, 60, of Sloan, Iowa, passed away peacefully at a Sioux City hospital on Saturday, March 30, 2019, surrounded by his family.

Memorial services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, April 5, 2019, at the Community Church of Christ in Sloan, Iowa, with Dr. Emery Killian officiating. Burial will follow in the Sloan Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Air Force. Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

David Harold Nelson, the son of Harold and Bertha Nelson, was born on October 15, 1958, in Onawa, Iowa. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Sloan, where he attended Sunday School and church. He graduated from Westwood High School in May of 1977. While in school, he enjoyed band and earned the music award in 1977.

He helped build homes in Sloan before he joined the United States Air Force from 1981 – 1987. He was stationed in England and worked in the security office. Following his honorable discharge, he lived in Kansas City for many years. He then moved back to this area and worked at the Whiting Locator.

Survivors include his parents, Harold and Bertha Nelson of Sloan, IA; sisters, Susan (Scott) Burtwistle of Stanton, NE and Terry George of Des Moines, IA; many nieces and nephews; two uncles, Lawrence Nelson and Dean Nelson; one aunt, Jeannie Hughes; many cousins; close friends, Rene Murrell and family, Everett and Ann Bradshaw, and Amy Christensen; and his beloved cat.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Nels and Lela Nelson and Johnnie and Gertrude Hughes.
