Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, 2320 Outer Drive, in Sioux City.
George was born in Salix, on Aug. 7, 1929, to Clinton and Margaret (Reynolds) Harrington. He graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic School in 1947 with three classmates. George was a hard worker on the farm and took great pride in everything he did.
He and Mary were united in marriage at St. Michael Catholic Church on June 14, 1949. They raised seven children, starting in Climbing Hills, Iowa, and later moving to their farm north of Leeds. He supplemented the farm income by holding many jobs over the years, but his love was always farming, raising his hogs, cattle, and chickens.
George always had a passion for learning and knowledge, which he passed along to his children. He had many talents, but he was a genius with numbers and finances. He bought and sold numerous farms over the years and loved going to area farm auctions.
George leaves his loving wife of 70 years, Mary (Uhl) Harrington; his daughters, Kathy Facer, Barbara Thomas, Charlene Maaske and her husband, Steve, Susan Naddy and her husband, Bill, Anne Petersen and her husband, David; son, Michael, Thomas and his wife, Jean; grandchildren, Nicole Facer, Jessica Wolzen (Steve), Rachel Knowlton (Sam), Lorelei Goodman (Bryan), Christopher Thomas (Jenny), Adam Thomas, Greg Maaske (Shannon), Sara Freve (Dan), Rigel Harrington, Zachary, April, Scott, Ryan, Kyle and Molly Harrington, Joseph Petersen, and Mark Petersen (Amy); eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Audrey Kurth and Julie Winters; and two brothers, Dan Harrington and Kevin Harrington.
