Lee N. Watterson, 71, died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.
Services will be at Westlawn Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Willard Galloway officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present after 7 p.m., at the Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.
Mr. Watterson was a born Feb. 12, 1920, in Sioux City, the son of Lebert and Mary (Terril) Watterson. He attended Sioux City public schools. He served in the antitank company of the 133rd Infantry of the Army in 1940 and 1941. He married June Carlson Dec. 12, 1941, in South Sioux City, Neb. She died Sept. 13, 1971, in Sioux City. Lee was a lifelong Sioux City resident and a self-employed carpenter.
He was a Presbyterian. He was a member and past president of the Eagles. He was an avid dancer and a square dance instructor.
Survivors include four sons and their wives, Howard and Jean, Randy and Karen and Tony and Cindy, all of Sioux City, and Dennis and Cheryl of Sergeant Bluff; a daughter, Connie Graves, of Sioux City; and a brother, Lebert Jr., of Sioux City; a brother Lebert Jr., of Sioux City; seven sisters, Nellie Mae Keairins, Juanita Schultz, Dorothy Adams and Roberta Thiele, all of Sioux City, La Verne Carlson of Burbank, S.D., Mary Ellen Irish of Phoenix and Judy Watterson of Davenport, Iowa; 25 grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Lance and Don Watterson, Doug Carlson Jr., Harry Keairns, Al Theile and Chuck Schultz, Jr.
