Norman was born Dec. 11, 1937, in rural Alcester, S.D., to August and Anna M. (Vanderham) Huebner. He grew up in the Elk Point, S.D., and Akron, Iowa, area, where he graduated from Akron High School in 1957. Within a couple of days from graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 1964.
On Jan. 27, 1961, he married Norma Chamberlain in Elk Point. After their marriage, he worked at the Dividend Gas Station. He then worked at Electro Magic in Yankton, S.D., where they manufactured steam cleaners. It was also at this time that the couple bought a farm. Then in 1966, they moved to Sioux City, where he worked at IBP for 17 years. It was while he was working at IBP that he got his nickname, "Stormin' Norman." Later when the couple bought the bar in Elk Point, they named it Stormin Norm's. After he left IBP, he worked at Thermal Bond for two years, then at the Argosy Casino, where he worked for the last 13 years. He was named Employee of the Year in 1997, which he was very proud of.
He enjoyed the outdoors very much. He loved to fish in Minnesota and South Dakota and even Canada. He also went mule deer hunting in western Nebraska. But his love for his children and grandchildren meant even more. He made sure he would attend all of his grandchildren's activities. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in South Sioux City and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 915.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Norma, of Sioux City; daughters and their husbands, Kim and Kevin Juzek of Sioux City and Kathy and Jim Larson of Shenandoah, Iowa; a son and his wife, Kevin and Shelly Huebner of Hinton, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Russell Baum and his wife, Amanda, Mitchel Juzek, Ranae Larson, Tyler Larson, Mitchell Larson, Kelsie Huebner, Mallorie Huebner and Ethen Huebner; and two brothers, Melvin Huebner and his fiancee, Pat and Richard Huebner and his wife, Franny, all of Akron, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Edwin.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Huebner, Russell Baum, Jim Larson, Mike Huebner, Marvin Huebner and Lance Hays. Honorary pallbearers will be Mitchell Larson, Tyler Larson, Mitchel Juzek, Ethen Huebner, Jim Kirkpatrick, Tom Hisler, Jerald Chamberlain, David Gibbs, Monroe Gibbs, Dennis Hayes and Marty Johnson.
