10 November 2008SIOUX CITY -- Fred E. Davis Sr., 90, of Sioux City passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Fred was born March 28, 1918, in Sioux City, the son of Clyde L. and Lina M. (Grout) Davis.
He married Leona (Faye) Saul in Vancouver, Wash.
He worked maintenance for Armour and Company, retiring after 42 years. In 1980, he co-owned The Country Tavern and in 1983, changed to the Welcome Inn. From 1988 to 1993, he was caretaker at Shaare Zion Synagogue, later moving to Beth Shalom from 1994 to 2004. He was known by many as a generous and kind man, always giving of himself.
Survivors include his wife, Leona; two sons, Russell L. Davis of Thailand, and Fred Davis Jr. and his wife, DeLonna of Sioux Falls, S.D.; seven daughters, Donna Rae Price of Omaha, Neb., Lynn Claire Glover of Norwalk, Calif., Debra Sanchez, Lily Medina and her husband, Wayne, Bonnie L. Davis, Mary L. Davis and Vanetta I. Davis, all of Sioux City; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Grace Hansen of Sioux City. He will be missed by all, especially his grandchildren, who he says have kept him going all these years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clyde, Charlie and Paul; sisters, Lucille and Norma; two children, Dennis and Lena Mae; a granddaughter, Jessica Rose; and a great-grandson, Oliver Samuel.
Pallbearers will be his son and grandsons, Fred Davis Jr., Brandon Medina, Michael, Malaney, Raleigh Davis, Kelly Davis and David Davis.
