12 November 2008SIOUX CITY -- Jane M. Wheeler, 73, of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at Holy Spirit Assisted Living.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Jane was born Sept. 24, 1935, in Wadena, Iowa, the daughter of William and Nica (Fay) Corkery. She was raised in Wadena and graduated from Wadena High School in 1954.
On Aug. 10, 1955, she married Jerry Wheeler in Wadena. He died Nov. 17, 2006, in Sioux City. She had been a resident of Sioux City for the past 53 years.
Her most important job was making a home for her husband and children, but she also worked at Sacred Heart School in the lunch program while her older children attended there. She was a very active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She did volunteer work for many of the dinners and other church activities. She also coordinated the funeral lunches for more than 18 years. She was a member of the Ladies of La Salette, where she served as president, vice president and treasurer.
She is survived by her four children, Julie and Brian Sands of Sioux City, Jeffrey and Sheila Wheeler of Sioux City, Jolene Mozak of North Sioux City and Jessica and Jeff Taylor of Sioux City; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jeremy Mozak, Josh and Missy Wheeler and their children, Easton and Addison, Janica Mozak and her children, Trinton and Jazlyn, Larissa Sands, Allysia Taylor and Colton Taylor; and eight brothers and sisters, Jeanne Singer of Fayette, Iowa, Joanna and Donald Vontalge of Wadena, Iowa, William and Marilyn Corkery of Coggon, Iowa, Charles and Ila Lee Corkery of Manchester, Iowa, Ellis Corkery of Lisbon, Iowa, Timothy Corkery of Wadena, Paul and Beverly Corkery of Dysart, Iowa, and Steven and Kathy Corkery of Wadena.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Gregory Corkery; and a sister, Barbara Vincent.
Pallbearers will be her six brothers, William, Charles, Ellis, Timothy, Paul and Steven. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Hulleman, Clifford Collette, Richard Dieger and Donald Streeter.
