SIOUX CITY -- Laverne J. Huss, 87, of Huntington Beach, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2008.

Services will be Friday in California. Burial will be in Westminister Memorial Park, Westminister, Calif.

Laverne was born Jan. 23, 1921, in Correctionville, Iowa, the son of Henry and Freda (Clausen) Huss. He attended Sioux City Public Schools.

He married Irene Jimison on July 4, 1942, in Sioux City. He worked for Schoeneman Lumber Co. The couple moved to Long Beach, Calif., in 1953. He was employed at McDonald-Douglas, retiring in about 1978. They moved to the Ojai, Calif., area. Irene passed away July 9, 2001.

During World War II, he served as a corporal in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He was stationed at Fitzgibbons Hospital in Denver, Colo., and in Europe. He enjoyed fishing, garage sales, his dog, Winston and his family.

Survivors include three children and spouses, Donald and Carole Huss, Connie and Bill Wolford and Ken Huss and Jan Cryan; seven grandchildren, Nicole and Lance Ortega, Brad and Marji Huss, Eric Hutton, Heather and Steven Cohn, Matthew Wolford, Amber and Mike Beyma, Adam Huss and Megan Mathison; a great-grandchild, Ryan Beyma; a brother, Henry and Barbara Huss of Calimesa, Calif.; two sisters, Irene Molden and Betty Bauerly of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Darlene Huss of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Irene; his parents; a sister, Marjorie and Lester Tott; a brother, Richard "Guy" Huss; two brothers-in-law, Mervin Molden and Robert Bauerly Sr.; four nephews; and two nieces.
