Lois M. Nelson, 95, of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at Sunrise Retirement Community.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 29, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave., Sioux City. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Lois, the daughter of John Russell and Iva Pearl (Nelson) Beachy, was born Nov. 26, 1923, in Hornick, Iowa. Lois grew up in the Leeds area and attended Sioux City Schools. After attending school, she worked in retail and during World War II, she worked at Wincharger. During this time, she met Sergeant First Class Robert Gordon Nelson, who was stationed in Sioux City with the Army Air Force.

Lois and Robert were united in marriage on Dec. 14, 1944, in Denver, Colo., and this union was blessed with five children. The family made their home in Sioux City. Lois was a homemaker and helped her husband with his businesses, Fashion Floors and Slumberland. Robert passed away on Sept. 27, 2005.

Lois enjoyed country music, yodeling, fishing, craft work, sewing and her flower gardens. She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church, the Isaac Walton League and the Scandinavian Society.

She is survived by five children, Cheri (Dean) Neal of Lawton, Iowa, Barbara Vogt of Hudson, Fla., Robert (Rebecca) Nelson of Sioux City, Terry (Marcia Waitt) Nelson of Pacific Grove, Calif., and Julie (Stewart) Utech of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren, Brad Maaske, Dana (Kim) Neal, Michelle (Mike) Hall, Keelie Neal, Katherine (Rob) Towler, Dustin Maaske, Corey (Jodi) Utech, Aimee (Cole) Hoff, Haylee (Joe) Junck, Kyle (Trista) Utech, Austin Nelson and Abbie Blackwell; 31 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Rochelle Beachy of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; son-in-law, Kenneth Vogt; one sister, Ruby (Marvin, Sr.) Rodvold; and one brother, Jack Beachy.
