Harrisburg, SD ~ Wendall Naden Lown, age 97, died on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Harrisburg United Methodist Church with his family greeting friends for visitation on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
Wendall Naden Lown was born on September 10, 1921 in Castana, Iowa to Frank and Nora (Naden) Lown.

He was raised and received his education in Castana; graduating from Castana High School. Upon the outbreak of WWII, Wendall stayed on the family homestead to run the farm while his brother, Frank joined the war effort. Wendall spent over 65-years working on his family homestead, growing corn, raising hogs and cattle. He lived a life devoted to service, caring for his mother, volunteering on the Monona County Fair Board for over 60-years, leading 4-H clubs, a Township Trustee, and serving on the board of directors for the Rural Electric Cooperative for many years.
Wendall while square-dancing, met and fell in love with Anita (Bauer) Villebro. Wendall and Anita were united in marriage on August 28, 1982 in Castana, IA. The couple made their home on the family homestead east of Castana, until his retirement from farming in 2006. Wendall and Anita then made their home in Harrisburg, SD. Anita passed away on April 6, 2016. Wendall has lived the last years of his life at the Bethany Home in Sioux Falls, SD.

In addition to square-dancing, Wendall enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading Louis L'Amour novels, the daily crossword puzzles, watching the Minnesota Twins and women’s basketball, and above all spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared his life are six step-children: John (Trish) Villebro, Hornick, IA, Pat (Jim) Richardson, Fairmont, MN, Jim (Karen) Villebro, Freeport, IL, Cindy (Gary) Nelson, Van Horne, IA, Suzie (Bruce) Aldrich, Harrisburg, SD, Eric Villebro, Omaha, NE and Dawn Ennis, Omaha, NE; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Lown of Estherville, IA; nieces: Janet (Dan) Buda, Humboldt, S.D., Jean Lown, St. Paul, MN and Marybeth (Mark) Fitzgerald, Menomonie, WI; nephews: Jim (Jan) Lown, Birmingham, AL, Don (Janet) Lown, Waukesha, WI, and John (Sandy) Lown, Sioux Falls, S.D; cousin, Dick (Doreve) Cridlebaugh, East Peoria, IL; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Wendall was preceded in death by his wife, Anita Lown on April 6, 2016; his parents, Frank & Nora Lown; and one brother, Frank P. Lown.
