SIOUX CITY -- Gerald P. "Jerry" Neu, 84, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., followed by a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Rosary and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Chalice Service, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Jerry was born Nov. 13, 1924, in Waterloo, Neb., to Pete and Mary (Dalton) Neu. He received his high school education in Valley, Neb., graduating with the class of 1942, before continuing his education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he obtained his accounting degree from the business college in Lincoln.

Jerry married Lorraine Woita on Feb. 18, 1950, in Weston, Neb. The couple made Omaha their home while Jerry worked for Nebraska Tractor Company before relocating to Sioux City in 1957, when Jerry began work at Allis Chalmers.

He began his career in the automobile industry when he began working for the Sioux City Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealership in 1969. He weathered many changes in the industry throughout the years, working as a secretary-treasurer and office manager for various Lincoln/Mercury dealerships before retiring from Art Silva Lincoln/Mercury/Toyota. Jerry retired in 2003, but remained active for any consultation.

He was a proud member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and enjoying his membership with the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a member of VFW Post 1973 and was currently serving as president of the Last Man's Club, affiliated with American Legion Post 58 in Valley, Neb., where he was also a member. Jerry was a great family man. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved the lakes area and enjoyed their log cabin in Lake Okoboji. Jerry loved sports and was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Neu of Sioux City; a daughter, Diane Ladwig and her husband, Tom of Sioux City; a son, Dave Neu of Sioux City; a granddaughter, Shelley Ritz and her husband, Chad of Sergeant Bluff, and their children, Easton and Addison; sisters, Virginia McMahon and Marilyn Alfers and her husband, Jack, all of Omaha; and a sister-in-law, Mary Neu of Mitchell, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bill Neu; and a sister, Margaret Cox
