SIOUX CITY -- Mary T. Kyriakos Karras, 86, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at Bethany Lutheran Home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Transfiguration Church in Sioux Falls. Burial will be in Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with the family present following a Trisagion service at 7 p.m., at Miller Funeral Home, 13th and Main, in Sioux Falls. Mary was born Aug. 21, 1922, in Sioux City, to Theodore and Theophani (Sakellaris) Kyriakos. She graduated from Sioux City Central High School.

She married George Karras on Jan. 20, 1950, in Sioux City. The couple moved to Sioux Falls. She worked with her brother's at Kirk's Restaurant for many years. She also worked for the Sioux Falls Public School lunch program for close to a decade before retiring.

Throughout he life, she maintained a deep personal faith and was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Sioux City, where she was a member of the choir. She also was a member of Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Sioux Falls.

Blessed with a generous spirit, she had a deep compassion for those less fortunate. Over the years, she was known for supporting a number of charities and causes. She looked forward to summer months when she could plant flowers and vegetables. In addition to gardening, she loved Greek cooking and hosting dinners for family and friends. Centering her life on God and family, her gentle and loving spirit will be forever cherished.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter and her husband, Bessie and Tom Katsilametes of Boise, Idaho; a son and his wife, Donald and Donna Karras of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Nikaline, Pete, Dane and Dillon; a brother and his wife, Larry and Jennie Kirk; sisters-in-law, Penelope Kyriakos, Pearl Kirk, Helen Kirk and Dion Karras, all of Sioux Falls; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gus and Helen Poulos of Sioux Falls; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Ted Kirk, George Kirk and Chris Kyriakos; and an infant brother, John.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Transfiguration Church, 1936 South Summit Ave., Sioux Falls, S.D. 57105.
