12 December 2008SIOUX CITY -- Richard A. "Dick" Schafer, 79, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at his residence.
Per his wishes, the body was cremated. Private family services were held Dec. 11 at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.
Richard Alvin Schafer was born Nov. 18, 1929, in Sioux City, the son of George and Hazel (Palmer) Schafer. He was a produce manager at the Boulevard Food Store, where he worked for more than 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Sioux City; two sons, Donald and his wife, Nancee of Loomis, Calif., and James of Conroe, Texas; four daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Ken Argo, Sherry and Dusty Shapley, Roxanne and Dave Toel and Laurie and Alvin Teutsch Jr., all of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren, Curtis Argo, Tami Argo, Greg Argo, Ryan Argo, Christopher Schafer, George Schafer, Angie Apple, Sara Shriver, Cameron Shriver, Andrew Teutsch, Alisha Teutsch, Ashley Custer and Cody Custer; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Helen Rehan of Glendale, Ariz., Lila Butler of Sioux City and Sue Sell of Thayer, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Delayne.
